XPNetwork Europa
XPNetwork Europa is a scenery package for X-Plane that supplements the default European autogen infrastructure with a comprehensive road, rail, and maritime network. All data is derived from the OpenStreetMap (OSM) database. The package includes dynamic traffic objects, localized vehicles, and static scenery elements such as parked cars, guide posts, and pedestrians.
Background
- Type: Scenery package (no plugin dependency)
- Developer: hmkaiser (Community)
- Source: Aerosoft Forum
- Distribution: Google Drive (Donationware)
- Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux (standard scenery folders, platform-independent)
- Compatibility: X-Plane 12
The package covers all of Europe with 1° x 1° tiles and differentiates between countries for traffic rules (left/right-hand traffic) and localized objects.
Features
Road Network
- Complete European road hierarchy: highways, primary, secondary, tertiary, and minor roads
- Correct left/right-hand traffic per tile (e.g., UK left-hand traffic)
- Dynamic vehicle objects with variable driving speeds
- Localized vehicles per country (e.g., German police cars)
- Static elements: parked vehicles, guide posts, pedestrians, bushes
- Optimized night lighting for road infrastructure
Rail Network
- European-wide rail system with classification: high-speed, primary, secondary, tertiary, and narrow-gauge
- Redesigned track graphics
- Static elements including parked wagons
- Localized dynamic rail objects per country
Maritime Traffic
- Differentiation between sea routes and inland waterways
- International ferry connections (motor and cable ferries)
- Localized ship objects for European waters
- Kiel Canal (Nordostseekanal) implementation with size-based vessel limits
Value in Flight Simulation
For VFR flights over Europe, realistic ground infrastructure is essential for visual navigation. X-Plane's default road and rail network lacks regional differentiation and visual density. XPNetwork Europa addresses this by providing a country-specific, OSM-derived infrastructure layer — roads follow their real-world paths, railways match actual routes, and ferry connections follow established routes. The maritime component adds a dimension entirely absent from the default simulator: ship traffic on rivers, canals, and coastal waters. On Linux, the package installs as standard scenery folders without plugin dependencies.
Installation
Download: Google Drive
The package consists of scenery folders placed in the Custom Scenery directory. The load order in scenery_packs.ini matters — detailed installation instructions including scenery order and compatibility notes for SimHeaven X-World are included in the download.
